To accurately measure chain wear, the link length needs to be measured when subjected to a load. Traditionally this is done by suspending a weight to the lower run of the chain and then measuring a number of links along the upper run. The amount of load placed on the chain is not necessarily repeatable or appropriate for the chain size.
The Digital Chain Stretch Measurement Tool is a precision instrument which has been specially developed to evaluate chain wear quickly, accurately and repeatably. The tensioner has a graduated scale for applied kgf for easy tensioning. The digital measuring device attaches magnetically to enable accurate measurements. A calibration gauge is supplied to set the digital caliper to the correct length for 400 & 500 chains and a chart translates the measurement to percentage of wear.
The Digital Chain Stretch Measurement Tool is also available as a package, with the PROCAT-L Laser Chain Alignment Tool included. The wheel alignment can then be quickly checked and adjusted after chain measurement (and replacement if necessary).
